CORTEX BASS GmbH

Pierre Camilleri

Holder of a BA in law from the University of Fribourg, Pierre has an extensive career in private banking, essentially covering the Latin world, in particular the Portuguese speaking countries. He discovers the Duvoisin brand through the internet in 2012, quits his banking job and invests to develop the local brand on an international level.

After 7 years with the Duvoisins, as the master builder takes a well-deserved retirement, it is time for Pierre to focus on pure bass building. To achieve this goal, he creates Cortex Bass GmbH. The new company, wholly owned by Pierre, is the result of an important encounter and a core collaboration with Paul Lairat, the well-known Luthier from Courthézon. The first model, the “Napoleon” (reference to the fish and not the famous French Emperor!) is designed and created. Its launch is to take place at the NAMM show 2020.

CORE PARTNERSHIP

Paul Lairat

A Luthier working from the South of France. It all began in 1994 when Paul started playing the old acoustic guitar of his father Henri. Strumming away, he soon thought of making the guitar more modern and to his liking, instinctively motivating him to achieve his first instrument customization in the family garage. Following his calling, Paul decides to open his own workshop in July 2000.

Throughout trade fairs, exhibits and their lot of encounters with musicians, Paul felt the need to stand out in offering them a unique instrument: the Stega. This bass would be an exceptional model, revolutionary in its futuristic design and playability, while offering a sound of unmatched versatility, power, dynamics, increased harmonics and precision.

Since then, sticking to his philosophy, Paul crafted many more outstanding bass models and was awarded best luthier by the American Bass GearMagazine in 2009.

Next to his own brand, Paul has decided to collaborate with Cortex Bass. He is the designer of the unique shape of the “Napoleon”, his hand is also that, that gives our bass its final finish. We feel truly blessed and honoured to be able to collaborate with such an artist.

Maryse Lairat

She is the better half of Paul, the rational half that keeps the artistic sense in check, the feminine touch of Cortex Bass. Thanks to her marketing and organizational skills, she has always been a reliable compass, keeping the company on the right track.

She also takes care of shedding the best light possible on the brand and products, thereby sharing clear cut opinions and views that matter, whilst ensuring public relations.

Since I met Paul and Maryse, during NAMM 2016, we have always kept contact and are now all working together. A true blessing.

K-9 Testing Unit

Never underestimate two pairs of extra-sensitive ears… They are the ultimate detectors of the squealing “G”-string. Baguette the Basset and Mishka the Terrier are part of the family and bass addicts.
